Integration courses – the first step towards becoming part of German society

Integration courses – the first step towards becoming part of German society

For asylum seekers wanting to live in Germany, it's very important to learn the basics of the German language as quickly as possible. A basic knowledge of German is a must, especially when it comes to communicating with locals in everyday life, making social contacts or looking for a job. That's why the integration course for asylum seekers smoothes the way towards becoming part of German society. It combines a language course with an orientation course about life in Germany. Besides basic language skills, immigrants who attend an integration course at IQ will also learn about their rights and obligations, the German legal system and German culture.

Our integration course topics help you adjust to life in a foreign country

We attach great importance to teaching integration course participants about Germany's core values – things like religious freedom, tolerance and equality. The integration course covers important topics such as work and jobs, training and further education, shopping and consumption, health and hygiene, childcare and parenting, leisure and social contacts, media and media usage, as well as housing and accommodation. Immigrants will also learn how to write letters and emails in German and apply for a job.

German integration course plus literacy skills

In addition, we offer an integration course that also teaches literacy skills. As a result, people who are not familiar with the Latin alphabet can learn to read and write during their integration course too. The duration of the integration course depends on the type of course participants choose. The course can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. Because this is a B1 integration course, participants who complete it will be qualified to take the corresponding telc exam.

Integration course modules and costs

Our integration course is recognised by Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and is subsidised. The introductory course for asylum seekers from Syria, Eritrea, Iran and Iraq is free of charge; the costs are covered by your local employment agency. You can attend the integration course without having filed an asylum application ; all you need is your permission to reside (Aufenthaltsgestattung) or Asylum Seeker Registration Certificate (BüMA). The regular integration course is free of charge under certain conditions; otherwise only very low costs apply. Further information on the integration course and the eligibility certificate (Berechtigungsschein) is available from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

The integration course certificate: your first step towards citizenship

A useful tip: an integration course certificate also makes it easier to gain citizenship, because anyone who can prove their successful participation in an integration course can apply for citizenship after just seven years of legal residence in Germany.
